Hartlepool Gymnastics Club was formed in 2008 by Shelley Taylor in July 2009 the club moved into the Masonic Hall where it could start to lay down its roots. During the first year of operating the club received the GymMark award which is given to clubs that have to meet certain criteria via the British Gymnastics Association and Sport England, this was a great achievement for such a new gymnastics club.
The club has four main sections. Recreational gym classes, boys tumbling, general apparatus and girls advanced classes. These classes see the children attending between 1 and 9 hours per week, Monday to Saturday. The club now has over 140 children from 4 years + attending weekly and has a waiting list of up to 3 months.
"Becoming part of the HSA was a great achievement for us because as a relatively new club being able to meet all the criteria showed that we were moving in the right direction". "The HSA meetings give you the opportunity to mix with other types of clubs within the town and share your knowledge and advice with each other. Being able to be part of such a great sporting association in a town that produces such high level sportsman and women is a great honour".
